We can't believe April is coming to a close! This has been a whirlwind of a last week for us. Our office experienced a fire on April 22. Our main building sustained some damage, and our storage shed, containing all of our Christmas in God's Country items, was completely demolished. However, we are very grateful that no one was injured and that we have temporary housing. We appreciate Community Wealth Group and Community National Bank for taking us in! Our new location, for the time being, is 1608 Ave. M. Thank you to everyone for your patience while we navigate this road bump.
Last weekend, we had 2 wonderful events---the Tour of Vacant Buildings and the Heritage Festival.
The Tour of Vacant Buildings showcased 9 properties in Hondo. It was a self-guided tour complete with informational packets about each building. We had several interested parties seeking a location for their new or expanding businesses. Hopefully, we will see some of these empty buildings filled soon! Thank you to our amazing board members, Cindy Wimberley and Rey Bernal, for volunteering their time during the Tour!
The Heritage Festival was a huge success! The Hondo Public Library, the City of Hondo, and the Medina County Museum partnered with us to put on this celebration of Medina County's history and culture. There were reenactments, dancers, musicians, delicious food, games, and contests. The turnout was excellent, and we hope to make this an annual event! Our Medina County Museum has a wealth of treasures to explore. If you haven't been, you are missing out! Thank you to all of our sponsors, volunteers, and participants. We couldn't have done it without you!
Today, April 30, Mayor Danner signed the proclamation that declared next week, May 5-11, as National Small Business Week in Hondo.
